So Fisker just bumped up the timing of their Q4 2022 earnings release to before market open on Monday, February 27th, 2023. Conference call at 5:30am Pacific Time. Wonder why they moved this up? Any guesses?

@seancallahan New again but a long time shareholder. I hope it’s good ! They moved it up to give people more time to buy!!!  My one question I really want to know is not the 15 car fleet but just how many cars a day are being made period With that we will have an idea on the 300 then the rest will come. If one a day we are done.

@seancallahan Hey Sean, just a guess but I wonder if it’s purely to avoid confusion with FS capital, ticker symbol FSK, which reports Monday night.  Thoughts?

Thanks for all your great work!

Your guess is as good as mine. I have no idea. I thought it was a little strange to move the earnings call pre-market. There is clearly a strategy to the timing of earnings calls. Only if we could be a fly on the wall!! 🪰

@seancallahan could just be Henrik, Geeta are planning to be in Austria on Monday. So based on European timezone, Morning EST makes more sense then Eveing EST. 7:30 AM EST would be 1:30 PM in the afternoon in Austria. 6:00 PM EST would be midnight 12:00 AM in Austria.

@harsh You may be totally right! I recall Henrik doing an earnings call from Magna Steyr before. Nevertheless, I’ll be waking up at the crack of dawn on Monday to listen to the call.

How much can hit can Fisker stock take while allowing the company to survive?  They clearly need to raise more capital and at these valuations, they would have to sell the farm.

If there is bad news regarding almost anything, given this market, the stock would tank and (in my opinion) the company with it.  As a ONE order holder, I hope that all news is positive on Monday.

Bad news, a hit to the stock, and I am out!  Better to lose $5K than to lose an additional $65K.

@ttrinchi Yes, hopefully not a bad idea, thought it could be fun! (we'll give it a go and see if anyone uses it). Just tap the Giphy icon in the bottom right hand side of the editor.

Something bizarre that I noted:  @seancallahan noted in the "business update" post that

The company spent $702 million in 2022, below its anticipated range, and had a cash balance of $736 million at the year-end, higher than expected.

However, this article Fisker touts increasing Ocean reservations (NYSE:FSR) | Seeking Alpha included the following info:

The EV startup posted a larger than expected loss for the fourth quarter, at $0.54 against a $0.48 per share loss anticipated by analysts. The company said that it has built 56 vehicles including 15 vehicles for Magna’s fleet since the start of production. Fisker has placed firm orders for the components for the first 300 vehicles, and partial 2Q long-lead components.

The easy parts first, they built 56 of 300 so far - fine, whatever.  A bit more concerned the parts orders - any misses on the supply chain could really sink the ramp up in Q2.

But what has me flummoxed is the EPS loss estimate being off in the opposite direction to the anticipated spending.  This is a pre-revenue company! All the analysts had to do was take anticipated spending, divide by number of shares outstanding, and voila, EPS estimate.

This suggests one of several explanations:

  1. Analysts expected revenue that didn't happen.
    1. a. There is a discrepancy between the Full Year 22 anticipated spending coming in lower and the Q4 spending being high.  Certainly possible, but they should have already known what actual spending was through the first 3 quarters of the year, right?  So it should be simple subtraction to get the anticipated Q4 number.
  2. The Seeking Alpha piece is a complete hit-job that bears no resemblance to reality.
  3. Analysts calculated the EPS on an implied float that suggests massive naked shorting, whereas Fisker reports based on actual shares in the divisor.

As to the revenue possibilities, clicking through the link where it says "anticipated by analysts" which is original to the quote above, we see the following:

Feb. 27, 2023 6:35 AM ET Fisker Inc. (FSR)By: Deepa Sarvaiya, SA News Editor
Fiskerpress release(NYSE:FSR):
Q4 GAAP EPS of -$0.54misses by $0.16.
Revenue of $0.31M (+675.0% Y/Y)misses by $0.71M.
Cash and cash equivalents of $736.5 million as of December 31, 2022. This excludes approximately $28 million of VAT receivables delayed to 2023.
The $736.5 million cash balance reflects approximately $57 million raised from Fisker’s $350 million at-the-market (ATM) equity program during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Full-year 2022 non-GAAP operating expenses and capital expenditures totaled $702 million, better than the $715 million to $790 million anticipated range.
Shares-0.70%PM.
The spending part corroborates Sean's statement.  There was a small revenue miss of $0.71M, or $710,000.  Yahoo Finance says there are 179.56M outstanding shares, so that comes out to $.0038 per share in missed revenue - hardly enough to explain a $0.16 earnings miss!  Also, the original article said a loss of $0.54 a share vs a $0.48 estimate, but in fact a $0.16 miss implies a $0.38 estimate!
I have more to write, but will post this for now and add later.
