To those who might vote for this swap at no change in cost, consider that the additional cost of parts for the solar panel roof and supporting electronics is significant - perhaps even more than $2K.   It costs Fisker very little to enter a "build change" into Magna's system that puts an OpenSky roof on the Extreme/One.   So voting for a no-price-reduction omit is voting to give Fisker additional profit in a time when they need to understand that competing on price even at Extreme/One levels is still important.

I would love to have the OpenSky Roof on my Ocean One rather than the SolarSky even if it was at the same cost, though I’d prefer to save $1k to $2k. Since my Ocean One is already locked I don’t think Fisker would offer me such an option, but I’d jump at the chance to make the switch. On some episode of All-Things Fisker, I asked Fisker for the OpenSky Roof switch-a-roo if they were watching and gave them my permission to make the change! 🤞

I would have it replaced with an open sky if Fisker is willing to give it as an option and credit.

@seancallahan I ask for this change through the app on Jan. 9th and got a Radgiver answer that this change is not an option.

I would gladly wait for the swap or an electric shade put in at the factory for a couple of weeks, but I don’t think that will happen that fast. I got locked in today 😢

@dirk Congrats on the lock-in! Yeah, I bet it would take longer than a few weeks for a factory solution.

From the comments on the SolarSky Roof article:

There will be no option to decline the solar for glass . They responded.

“Unfortunately, it will not be possible to opt out for the SolarSky for the your Fisker Ocean One.”

Not happy. The roof for me is useless as I will black it out

@seancallahan This is a pretty suboptimal approach to customer service from the Fisker side.  These SolarSky shadows are simply a fundamental Fisker design flaw and customers shouldn’t be forced to accept some half assed post delivery fix (removable shade, tinting) as a band aid fix to a fundamental problem with the car.  I’m still trying to push Fisker for the OpenSky option on my Fisker Ocean One, but it will clearly take more reservation holders to also be pushing for this option with Fisker at the same time.

My first choice is to keep the Solar Sky Roof if Fisker had a motorized sliding roof shade/headliner.  It would at least give us the choice to have full shade or a full view of the solar panels.  An aftermarket patch putting the cost and installation burden on the buyer is not the way Fisker should be handling this.   My second choice is to swap out the Solar Sky Roof for the Open Sky Roof with a discount of over $2000 (Hopefully at least $5000).  The only problem is, we would still need to find a shade solution similar to the Tesla panoramic glass roofs.  Instead of having a grid pattern to cover, we would need a cover to keep the full sun and heat out of the cabin.  I really thought that Fisker had thought this out years ago.  Maybe they did, and this is just another cost saving measure.

We've never had a sun shade on our Model 3 and haven't had any issues with the sun here in San Diego or going out to Palm Springs. Granted it doesn't open like the SolarSky or OpenSky Roof. Personally, the only reason I'd want a roof shade is to get rid of the shadow design in the interior cabin. I like feeling the warmth from the sun when a sunroof is open. A retractable option is preferred, but doubt an aftermarket solution would work well with the opening/closing of the SolarSky Roof. Since the square grid makes it hard to see out of the SolarSky Roof as it comes, tint will likely be the option I go with to cover up the interior cabin shadows *if* it really is an issue after taking delivery.

@seancallahan That's great to hear regarding the sun and heat in your Model 3.  I've read that the full panoramic glass roof can heat up the cabin, so that's reassuring.  Like you, I would like to cover up the grid shadows/light pattern reflecting in the interior. I would rather not have to tint it so much that it blocks all the light coming through,  but maybe there is a happy medium if we don't get a motorized cover.

Will the interior , especially the black interior suffer from Sun bleaching when parked up in the sun.

Probably have to have sun shade closed all the time, even at night.

If you are worried about that, there will be much more sun coming through from the windshield and other side windows than the small gaps within the solar sky roof.
