Hey Fisker Fam!

I was fortunate enough to pick up my Ocean One on Friday directly from the man himself at the Manhattan Beach HQ. I promptly jumped in the driver seat and took a 400+ mile road trip back up to the Bay Area.

I'm a serious car nut, and I've driven everything from a Honda Fit to a Ferrari F355. I've been driving EVs since 2013. This is my 4th ('13 Fiat 500e, '17 BMW i3, '19 BMW i3s), and to see the progress in the time we have - let's just say the future is bright.

My first impressions of this car are fantastic and, quite frankly, better than I expected. I anticipated far more software issues and even some minor flaws in the build itself, but I have yet to find anything material.  Some alerts popped up here and there along the drive, but nothing of any concern. The interior quality is amazing, and while it's not MB luxe - you should not be expecting anything like that.  Even my wife (whose patience with my counting down the days until delivery ended some time ago) admitted my insanity paid off.

So...now with ~700 miles under my belt already - AMA!  I've tested it all (except Boost)

Congrats!

Brave guy taking it for a 400 mile shakeout ride considering some of the “horror stories” we have been hearing !

So how well did it do with range in real life vs estimate? Did you find the charging capacity/speed to be good?

Will I get my Fisker One delivered before my VW needs its 100K service?? The race is on..
and…… will we still get the $7500 tax credit? Only HF knows…

It's great to hear a good review, thanks for posting, and congratulations on getting a rare car indeed - an Ocean One "signature edition" with 20" wheels.   I bet you can count those on one hand!   Will you leave the covers off permanently, or put them on for max range on trips?   What do you think of the handling, as nobody's really said anything about the 20" experience yet.

How are you watching the Eagles/Vikings game live? Through Amazon Prime or is that just game highlights?

@seaphil Ha - thanks Phil! Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" is one of my favorite songs 😉

I have zero horror stories to report. I have the expected software bugs and lack of features that, quite frankly, I didn't notice all that much because I don't really use all the tech to "help" me drive to begin with, so that will take some getting used to.

I did not start off with a full charge. When I got in the car, I had 266 miles of range. I stopped once for a "real" charge (Carl's Jr. + Eagles Game) and, other than that, topped myself off as I got closer to home to ensure I made it. I arrived in my driveway with 3% charge left.  Tough to say what the actual numbers were - very unexpected conditions. Mostly 100°+ temps the whole drive. Lots of AC use. I'll report back once I get a better feel.

As for rate - that high-speed charge was on a 350kw machine and I believe it peaked at around 170kwh. Photo attached.

@carlh This might have been my favorite part of the entire exchange. HF first question to me was, "so why did you get the 20" wheels?" - a story I had just finished explaining to my Fisker tech Eduardo.

I live in a VERY rural area of CA in a National Park. Most of the roads here are unpaved/loose gravel and the ones that are, are littered with potholes and other rough stretches. Ride quality and practicality were going to win out over looks.

I took the covers off as soon as I got back home and plan to leave them off with the exception of longer trips. The ride quality has been FANTASTIC. It was one of the first things my wife pointed out. Very smooth and handles these choppy roads much better than my '05 Saab 9-3 Vert or our '19 BMW i3s. That is exactly what I hoped for. In a perfect world, I would have had the opportunity to test drive both options out on these roads, but that was not in the cards, so I erred on the side of caution. Also note my build lock was AHEAD of any reporting/testing against range loss, so at the time, I was still under the impression it would be closer to ~20 miles per charge as initially stated.

Henrik said he personally knew of only two people who got the One with the 20" wheels - myself and someone else whose name you might notice, especially if you're from VT.

@jscorpio So sadly, I missed the game the night before because - fun fact - despite my having worked with the NFL now for 20 years, I refuse to give Amazon any money directly, so I am unable to watch TNF live! Good times in the media rights business.

I knew they had won, was just catching a bit of the replay while charging to test out how Hulu was working. I've been impressed by the connection of the 4G. It's working in areas where I would not expect and where I do not always have cell coverage so it's a bit surprising.

Great stuff. This gives me hope of also redeeming my wife’s patience!

Did you use the internal map or another source for your route plan?

@andrewb55 Congrats...my friend just received his on Sat. West coast, bay area owners not getting the same love on their delivery experience.  Just a guy and a trailer dropping of the Ocean and no breakdown on functions. He spent hours  figuring out how to start the thing. Hopefully when the Pear comes out their will be a pick up location with trained Fisker reps that make the experience more satisfying.

@el_digit I specifically used the internal TomTom mapping for as much of my route planning as possible. One thing I found particularly helpful was the rerouting feature once I dropped out of range for the station I had planned on hitting. The map is a bit laggy, as has been reported, but everything worked well.
