Question- are the higher cost paint colors a better paint quality?  Thicker ply or different technology?  Or is just about aesthetics.  If $4500 is the entry fee to have a new high tech paint that never needs waxing count me in.  Otherwise, not sure that $3000 for Big Sur Blue over Mariana makes any sense.  Although, Big Sur Blue is a pretty cool name . . .

@ceisenhower - I will never get a matt colour. I have seen the likes of Merc in Matt, it catches dirt and muck like a magnet.

They have put me in the waitlist for Ocean One.
Hoping to get one :)

@harmony Just realized there is a "finish" part of the paint configurator.  A couple of the higher cost options are mattes, but one is Multi-Coat, one is Tri-Coat.  Confusing.

Every manufacturer charges a bunch extra for the paints that require additional processing steps and layers. Tesla charges $3600 for Midnight Cherry and $3,400 for Quicksilver. A Cadillac CT5 in green Matte costs an extra $4,000 and black matte costs an eye-watering $9,000. And if you ever need to repair any of the special paint vehicles you get the joy of paying the huge premium all over again!

The cost of paint has nothing to do with extended durability, you will always need to maintain the finish one way or another.  I really liked Soalre Orange and was hoping to get that for the One, but it wasn't available.

The higher cost of paints has to do with the process and also the material, certain colors actually cost more to manufacture, so the cost to apply one color over the other does have some merit, not sure if it truely is $3000 more though.

@mymopar Yeah, wish the orange was available for the One. That was the color they used back in the first website I remember seeing the Ocean in, so was surprised it wasn't on the list for rollout. I ended up getting same combo as you it appears.

Three years ago I spent $2400 to respray the front clip of my '02 Miata in its Classic Red; paint can be spendy.

@mymopar other than me, you seem to be the only person that actually answered what the OP was asking...
