Fisker has announced that they are confident of manufacturing and delivering Ocean One in November 2022. That is only few months away. My question is what do I need to do in the garage with 240V outlet and anything else that makes it for Ocean One charging? I noticed that some of these EV Chargers are not readily available and may take a month to get it. This is our first EV. We only have hybrids. Any ideas or advice would be welcome. I am in US in North Carolina.

We were hearing from the recent video that it can charge 0-80% in 30 minutes at a 250kwh fast charger. You’ll need someone better at the maths than me to convert that to the home rate assuming a 50A setup (40A usable) in the garage.

otherwise, looks like 30 minutes for 80% charge at a fully functioning fast charger.

Useful conversions:

240V / 40A = 9.6 kw

240V / 32A = 7.7 kw

240V / 30A = 7.2 kw

If Ocean has a useable 110kwh battery then 5% - 80% = 82.5kw => takes just under 11 hours on a 32 A charger

If Ocean has 110kwh usable for 350 EPA miles then it is 315 wh per mile (we do not know this yet).

A 32 A charger at 7.7 kw = 7,700 w / 315 wh per mile = 24 miles per hour of charging at home on at 32A charger

A 40A charger at 9.6 kw = 9,600 w / 315 wh per mile = 31 miles per hour of charging at home on a 40A charger.

Using same 315 wh / mi assumption from above, at a 250 kw peak charging rate, Ocean can charge at a maximum speed of 4.16 kw per minute or 13 miles a minute (780 miles per hour). No idea how long it can hold the max charging speed or how quickly it tapers. If it can go from, say, 10% - 50% at an average of 200 kw, then it can add 140 miles in 13 minutes. But we are piling assumption on top of assumption at this point.

A good guess is that in practical everyday driving where you stop to recharge with 30-40 miles left on the battery, Ocean can add around 200 miles of range in around 18-20 minutes and 250 miles of range in around 30 minutes.

Will I get my Fisker One delivered before my VW needs its 100K service?? The race is on..
and…… will we still get the $7500 tax credit? Only HF knows…

@bayoubob thank you for compiling the estimate. This is helpful for new EV owners. Doesn't have to be accurate to the mile. This helps.
