So we currently have 2 cars and one of them is a 2012 Prius V, which is on its last legs. Pre-covid i had an alfa romeo guilia which was great but since i wasn't going into to work anymore it didn't make sense to have 3 cars, so i returned it after the lease. Alfa was a great performance and loved driving it. Now for the last 2 years driving the old prius with no juice is no fun. After doing a lot of research i put a deposit for the ocean a year ago thinking of getting the ULTRA as it gave the most bang for $. Wife has been constantly talking about getting another car as the prius had a head gasket leak which was band aid fixed with a sealer. My Bro bought a Model Y when prices dropped and its not bad. Looked at the Mustang Mach-E GT yesterday which has similar specs to the ULTRA buts it over 61K. Interior is definitely better (Ocean using recycled materials obv can't compete). With the delays, and if prius dies i will have no choice but to get another vehicle. Comon Henrick, lets get things rolling.
Competitors
MY performance comparable $55K - 7.5K rebate; MY everywhere you look in SOCAL
Ocean with my specs ~$56K - hopefully grandfathered in and full $7.5K
Mach E GT $61K only 270 range. only $3.75K rebate
For the $, ULTRA still on top for me. Anybody else in the same boat, where circumstances might not allow them to wait much longer, if deliveries don't start soon. I was hoping Nov for ULTRA deliveries, but that doesn't look to optimistic. Most likely 2024 now.
You are right, I wouldn't expect an Ultra until 2024. Also you will only get the full 7500k rebate if you lease just a FYI. Anything else will depend on what your current fed tax liability is and is considered a tax credit which is different than a rebate. As an example, if your tax liability is $5000 and you only had $5000 withheld, then you would get $5000 back, not $7500, so don't be fooled into thinking you'll get $7500 back.

Just priced a lyriq with AWD which has similar specs (ie 500 hp) and its over $65K
@tosk - I was in a similar situation – needing a car right now, I looked at various alternatives and after watching/reading some glowing reviews, went for a year-old BMW i4 eDrive 40 from a BMW dealer. Well pleased with it. The interior, the build quality, the range, and the ride is amazing (that the BMWs are known for - 'a driver's car'). Everyone has different preferences, but it's worth looking in to.
They have put me in the waitlist for Ocean One.
Hoping to get one :)
nobody wants to hear this, but model Y is the best bang for your buck and its available

Correct, no other car will offer so many problems for your buck!

Known and unknown quality issues aside, I just like the look of the Ocean way more than the MY or any other SUV for that matter. It is worth paying a little premium to get what I want and like.
I confess that I am smitten with the Rivian R1S. We have one quad motor LR on order under the old pricing (will cost $78.5k with colors and options and $71k after tax credit). We have a second one on reservation which I would spec with dual motor long range 340 miles for $85.7k (no tax credit). The first one we are getting it for sure. The second one is a completely stupid purchase when we could have an Ocean One for $61.5k after the tax credit, but man I really like the Rivian.

Y is an outstanding value - there is a reason it is literally the most popular car in the world. That said, it has its strengths and weaknesses like every car and its bang-for-buck quotient depends on how you individually value various aspects of "bang" and the "buck" part depends very much on your personal situation (tax credit eligibility, country, etc.).
@tesla4now and I am stating why MY isn't my back up, or any other SUV currently available. As to what would be - probably stay out of the market for now til something that does strike me comes along.
@silvernort yeah my bad, I think I got my topics mixed up. I can understand your view on the subject
Trading from my 2008 Chevy Malibu LTZ (purchased new) which has no issues, is a great commuter and roadtrip car (113mph top speed):
Before I was able to get on the ONE list and the US IRA tax law, my backup was a Kia EV6.
Then as my commute is short, my backup last year before the SOP was a used 2017+ Chevy Volt.
After SOP my backup became a Used ICE and wait three years for the EV market to mature.

My MY lease runs out the end of the year but I don't think my Ultra order will be ready by then. So I can either extend the lease by another year or look for a 1 year stop gap. Maybe I'll check out the Ariya or bZ4X or Ioniq.
