I'm headed on a road trip this weekend to Walt Disney World for a family vacation. Taking an electric car the distance. If anything pops up that I've missed please let me know.

Sean the phantom braking is a known issue with the model 3, speculation is that it happens when the system can’t tell the difference between real objects and shadows such as under bridges.

@maliblu Thank you for letting me know. Guess it will get improved over time but not ideal for a long road trip!

And scary AF! I’ve been on a car while it’s happened, not what you want to see on the 5 south in Anaheim!

Have a great trip Sean! Don't miss the Avatar ride at Animal Kingdom if you're there. I rode it a few times when I was there this summer and was blown away. It's the closest thing to flying....besides jumping off a cliff with wings, which is not on my list of things to do.

@seancallahan When you break out your charge stops, can you tell us how long each was? Not having any prior experience with EVs I'd like to get an idea of the time it takes, especially on a road trip. I'm hoping I can pick up my One in Cali and drive home to Wisconsin - make a real vaca out of it. Thanks!

Sean- if you would like try our texmex in austin, don’t forget to dine at chuys (not to be confused with chewys in CA) Also try taco deli for breakfast or lunch.  There are plenty of famous bbq places you probably already know of. Enjoy your stay in austin. Hope to see you today at the San Jose hotel

@seancallahan thanks for posting from Austin with your family. I remember the days of young kids and the excitement of making the pilgrimage to the house of the mouse. Hope you have a wonderful time.

This sounds like a great family road trip - enjoy!

Thank you for posting the real electric charging costs as you go along. The cost of long road trips is one of the harder things to understand when still driving an ICE.  I happen to have made a similar trip in September with my 2008 Chevy Malibu LTZ, from Phoenix AZ to Cape Cod, MA - About 35% overlap with your trip. The cost for fuel was less than 12 cents per mile. It looks like the charging cost on your trip will be over 13 cents per mile. My conclusion is that the non-home charging costs are determined by the costs of gas and not the cost of electricity (free market price I suppose).

I'm locked into one of the last 5000 Ocean Ones, currently looks like I'll get that between June and August next year. Trading a Malibu into Maliblu.

On my 2730 mile Malibu LTZ trip my average speed was 70 mph and avg mpg was between 30 and 31 mpg. my Malibu is a 169hp, 4 cyl, 6 speed automatic with a drag coef of 0.34 and curb weight of 3417 lbs.
