@bayoubob The terrible network and standard is dead in the US. Everyone will need to adopted NACS for US survival.
Henrik is going to need to rebuild a destroyed bridge. With news like this, there is no way these other charge network companies will survive, and the networks will not get future investment. This is painful
I do not see why EA etc cannot continue to do what they do. They must offer NACS plugs or die. There is plenty of room for other charge network operators. It will be darn tough for them to compete on equipment cost and network operating efficiency.
@bayoubob Will charging companies and carmakers eventually need to retrofit existing CCS charging ports to NACS or simply provide adapters?

Looks like Musk scored a major victory in the battle of charging network standards. Now two major American auto makers have embraced Tesla standards.
Bad news for CCS??
Henrik is going to need to rebuild a destroyed bridge.
That's a fact. But even if Henrik asks nicely will Elon leave him hanging? Lots of bad blood here, and neither of them seem all that intelligent, emotionally.

The term “antitrust” should bother Elon’s lawyers if not Elon. If he colludes with other manufacturers to shut out Fisker because of bad blood or just to freeze out some start up competitors, he could find himself in serious federal trouble.

@ashutosh-sakpal It is all three of the major American automakers (there are only three: Tesla, GM, and Ford). Representing 73% of EV sales in Q1 this year.
IMO, CCS1 is dead and is dead in the US market. I am especially interested to see what Rivian and Lucid do. They are small and nimble. The Germans and Koreans will take a bit of time, I suspect.
One this is absolutely clear: if a car maker does not at least have NACS adapters and compatibility, it is not a viable EV.

It wouldn't be antitrust. Would it? These are special partnerships between Tesla, Ford, and GM (so far). Is it not entirely up to Tesla who they decide to partner up with? Henrik is free to switch to the standard, but does Tesla have to allow cars outside of their partnerships access the chargers? Or offer lower prices for their partners and higher rates for their non partners?
You do realize you just described collusion? Collusion is an antitrust violation.

@grimtango I believe for Tesla to receive federal subsidies for new stations they will be required to be open to all. That’s not the case with his existing network.

I know HF and Musk have a history (not good), but it's time to bury the hatchet and follow in GM and Ford's footsteps. It would be a game-changer for all involved. Expect other EV makers to follow suit soon. FSR needs to board this train or be left behind.
Let's say Fisker did make the switch. How long would it take to implement? It seems like Fisker is in a tough spot. Announcing the switch right before deliveries of your top end One's (and first cars) would probably annoy people with early One's, unless Fisker offered to provide a free adapter or swap out the charging plug for free at a later date (which could be costly). The good news is it seems like better tech is winning out.

Both Ford and GM have managed this by saying all existing vehicles will get a software update to allow NACS charging, to integrate into the plug-and-charge payment system, and can use an adapter. Starting in Model Year XX there will be native NACS connectors built into the vehicle. Fisker can do the same without impacting its 2023 sales.
For example from Ford:
"Starting early next year, Ford EV customers will have access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada, in addition to the over 10,000 DC fast-chargers that are already part of the BlueOval Charge Network. This will give Ford EV customers unprecedented access to fast-charging. Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit customers will be able to access the Superchargers via an adapter and software integration along with activation and payment via FordPass or Ford Pro Intelligence
In 2025, Ford will offer next-generation electric vehicles with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector built-in, eliminating the need for an adapter to access Tesla Superchargers
