The German automaker just sent a message to rivals in China and America, the world's two largest markets.Volkswagen has just unveiled the ID.7, its very first global fully electric sedan, in Berlin, Germany and Shanghai, China. The car, which has a base price of about $66,000, is set to compete with the Tesla Model 3 et Chinese models from startups like BYD, NIO and others.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 stands out as a revolutionary electric sedan in the large touring segment, offering impressive range, exceptional comfort and innovative technologies. It is equipped with a new generation of high-efficiency electric motors, developing 210 kW/286 hp. These engines, the most powerful in the Volkswagen ID range, allow the ID.7 to reach a range of up to 700 km (435 miles) on a charge and charging capacities of up to about 200 kW will be possible. Optimized aerodynamics and improved engine efficiency and thermal management also contribute to this remarkable performance.
Schäfer said by 2026, Volkswagen will offer the widest electric range of all manufacturers in Europe – from the entry-level model for less than 25,000 euros up to the ID.7 as the new top model within the ID. family.
"Our goal is to achieve an electric car share of 80 percent in Europe by 2030. As from 2033, Volkswagen will produce only electric vehicles in Europe.”
The ID.7 launch is planned for this year in Europe and China, and from 2024 in North America. It will be produced at Volkswagen's plant in Emden, Germany, while the version for the Chinese market will be produced locally in China. This production rollout aims to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in these key markets.

I am still hoping for the ID.7 Wagon they showed at the L.A. Auto Show in 2019 (as the ID.Space Vision)...

@seancallahan They mention 2026 and not the US. By then a lot could change.

Didn't they say that the VW ID.3 would be a Tesla killer a few years ago?
The lack of choices of EV wagons keeps baffling me. I would think there would be a clear cut advantage in aerodynamic drag in a wagon shape that would put the car ahead in the range categories, while maintaining the cargo capacity at the level or better than the endless list of EV SUVs.
I love wagons so it pains me to say this but I don't see them making much inroads on EVs. The wagon doesn't have a significant aerodynamic advantage over the jelly bean CUV/SUV. The biggest advantage ICE wagons have over ICE CUVs is the lower center of gravity providing better performance and handling. With the center weight of EVs being very low due to the batteries, the advantage of the wagon has been neutralized.

I thought the ID.2 was the Tesla killer? I am pretty sure I have seen articles on every EV with over 250 mile range in the past 4 years dubbed a "Tesla Killer."

I would clarify that it's the auto press/journalists/YouTube/etc that dubs new EVs as a "Tesla Killer" to drum up attention and views. Most companies don't even mention Tesla. Though lately, I have seen a rash of Hyundai/Kia commercials directly comparing the Ioniq5/6 to the Model 3/Y.

Very nice. Best thing I have seen in the class. Model 3 finally has a real competitor. Sweet. (Love the hatch.)
Massage seats, bump out leg supports and ventilated seats, and SNAP- a glass roof that has an auto opaque feature…. in the Non Production version.
Henrik, you watching this???
if VW can get their range up to mid 300’s it’s gonna be a hit.
Will I get my Fisker One delivered before my VW needs its 100K service?? The race is on..
and…… will we still get the $7500 tax credit? Only HF knows…
@seaphil They are already promising 435 miles WLTP on this. That will deliver a solid mid-300 mile range in EPA. But I seriously wonder how the numbers work with a 77kw battery. I am guessing the long range version will have a ~90 kw battery. But it is going to be amazing if it hits these specs.
Its sort of the VW they promised like 10 years ago before they turned into the official car maker of soccer moms.
that original ID 4 door coupe was gorgeous. Looks like they incorporated elements of it and then gave it a rear that could carry gear.

@bayoubob just saw in an article its a planned 86kwh battery. Thats pretty freaking efficient if they can squeeze 300+ miles out of 86kwh. Aerodynamics truly plays a part. Imagine if Fisker put the proposed 100-105kwh Ocean battery into his old Karma..
