Came back to my Ocean earlier today to find a Rivian R1S parked behind me, and since I have yet to see these side by side like that, snapped a photo for those curious about the difference in size.
(Also happened to drive past ANOTHER Ocean One owner cruising Bridgeway in Sausalito, so if that was you - hi!)
Ocean One (831), Mariana w/ Maliblu, 20" F7 (Tow Package, Snow Chains, Emergency Kit)
I am in a dilemma. R1S is more practical and my old reservation brings the quad motor to $75k. Then I consider the Ocean One better looking and the California mode is a big deal for me.
Decisions, decisions
@matezz both qualify for tax credit? Which charges faster? Which has better range? Is carrying capacity a major consideration?
When??????????
@seaphil Believe me, have considered all 🙂
Now after proper bourbon (no ice) I still lean for the Ocean. R1S has more power, space, but Ocean has style. If I was 007 I would choose the Ocean 😌
@andrewb55 Not sure how I missed this. Very cool side-by-side visual size comparison. Thanks!

Okay, I am weighing in on this since you asked: are you out of your ever-loving mind? The Rivian is a $100k vehicle with a line out the door and around the block of people waiting to buy one. The resale on them is still $12k - $15k above your current price. There is a reason. The Rivian is a monster do-everything vehicle. The software has a ways to go, which is a humble way of saying it is about five years further developed than Fisker's software. The service network has a ways to go which is a humble way of saying.... (same). The Rivian is a Land Rover competitor and it is smacking down Land Rover already in California.
Yes, from a practical perspective you really do NOT need a 7,000 lb rocket ship that goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds, carries 7 people comfortably, has ~seven feet of cargo space with the rear seats down (and a frunk as big as the entire storage capacity behind the Ocean's seats +/-), has 835 horsepower and four motor independent torque vectoring (actually works), can tackle the Rubicon trail and easily out drag race the raptor/trx crowd and any SUV that does not say 'Plaid" on the tailgate. You do not need to be able to wade through 43 inches of water, have 15 inches of clearance, an air suspension, and hydraulic roll control. But it is awesome. And in the zombie apocalypse you just may need all of those. Just sayin.
Yes, it eats electrons but it is a highway cruiser when you need it. Edmunds real world range was 330 miles with all terrain tires. The 21s do better. If you are grandfathered into the old Rivian pricing you are picking this up for around $72k after the tax break. You do NOT need it. but it is a freaking amazing vehicle.
Full disclosure: there are three things I seriously dislike about the R1S. First, it actually is an energy pig at (in my experience) 400 wh mile. Second, the charging network totally sucks, but that is a CCS issue you will also face with Fisker and Rivian will have SC access a year sooner and comes with a free adapter. Third, Driver+ blows compared to the Tesla system (which is a humble way of saying it is about five years further....).
Just one man's perspective. and here is a photo to attest to the awesomeness.
PS, just a bit of lighthearted fun. Do what is best for you. Everyone's situation and priorities are different. I'll try to stop if i see you hitchhiking during the zombie apocalypse.
@bayoubob but like he said, 007 would choose the Ocean. And I am sure he means the Daniel Craig or Sean Connery 007, not that silly Roger Moore or Timothy Dalton Bond nonsense either.
one HUGE consideration, finding a parking space in public garages with the Rivian whereas the Ocean has a much better chance of fitting in a spot. FWIW, i had to park in a hospital garage with my VW 2 weeks ago and a Rivian R1S was parked in the “compact only” (asshole) spot next to me when i came out. It was over the lines on both sides of the spot and i had a bear of a time seeing around it to pull out.
When??????????
