The EPA is planning to propose new tailpipe limits ahead of Earth Day 2023 in an effort to accelerate the switch to zero-emission vehicles. Apparently, the proposed limits project EVs, such as the all-electric Fisker Ocean, will account for 54% to 60% of new vehicles sold in the United States by 2030. Furthermore, EVs are to represent between 64% and 67% of new vehicles by 2032.

I wish they would also enact a sound db limit as well (written as i hear a couple of unmuffled Fast and Furious wannabe’s racing their tuner crap 3 blocks away)…

Will I get my Fisker One delivered before my VW needs its 100K service?? The race is on..
and…… will we still get the $7500 tax credit? Only HF knows…

@seaphil I get a lot of that by me from race cars to motorcycles. I always thought Harley's were loud until you hear a motorcycle blazing down the road in the middle of the night.

@seaphil If you want a sound limit I say start with freaking leaf blowers. I was ready to take a sledge hammer to one this morning from the landscaper working next door.

One thing I'm looking forward to in 2024 -- banning of gas powered (noisy) lawn equipment!

L.A. has banned gas leaf blowers in residential areas since 1998:

No gas powered blower shall be used within 500 feet of a residence at any time. Both the user of such a blower as well as the individual who contracted for the services of the user if any, shall be subject to the requirements of and penalty provisions for this ordinance. Violation of the provisions of this subsection shall be punishable as an infraction in an amount not to exceed One Hundred Dollars ($100).

It's not enforced much as they would have to target gardners which many are undocumented.  Gas powered vacuum devices are still allowed.

Everyone has probably read this by now, but this is what was proposed on Wednesday for tailpipe emissions.

The Biden administration is proposing rules to ensure that two-thirds of new cars and a quarter of new heavy trucks sold in the United States by 2032 are all-electric.

The new rules would require nothing short of a revolution in the U.S. auto industry, a moment in some ways as significant as the June morning in 1896 when Henry Ford took his “horseless carriage” for a test run and changed American life and industry.

If the two rules from the Environmental Protection Agency are enacted as proposed, they would put the world’s largest economy on track to slash its planet-warming emissions at the pace that scientists say is required of all nations in order to avert the most devastating impacts of climate change.

The government’s challenge to automakers is monumental. Last year, all-electric vehicles accounted for just 5.8 percent of new cars sold in the United States. All-electric trucks were even more rare, making up fewer than 2 percent of new heavy trucks sold.
